Privacy Policy

Bitseal, LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("Bitseal," "we," "us," or "our") runs bitseal.net (the "Services"). We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and, because Bitseal writes data to public blockchains, what that means for you. Please read Section 2 before you seal anything. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Services. Questions: privacy@bitseal.net.

1. What information do we collect?

In short: your account details, what you choose to save, the public wallet address you connect, and basic technical data. We never see your private keys.

  • Account. Your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a salted, one-way hash, so we cannot read it.
  • Profile. An optional picture, @username and bio. These are public: anyone can see them on your profile, and your @username appears next to anything you make public.
  • Your content. The drafts, files and captured pages you save with us. "Capture this link" keeps a copy of the page's text and photos, and optionally a screenshot and PDF.
  • Wallet. The public wallet address you connect and the ID of the transaction you create, so we can show and verify your seal. We never receive or store your private keys or recovery phrase. Signing happens in your own wallet.
  • Technical data. IP address, browser and device details, pages visited and timestamps, mostly in server logs. A cookie keeps you logged in. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers or cookies.
  • Payments. We take no payments and never hold your funds. You pay the network fee from your own wallet. Bitseal does not currently charge its own fee, and if that changes we will update this policy first.
  • Email. We send service emails only, such as email confirmation, password resets and security notices. No marketing email.

2. On-chain data is public and permanent

This is the most important part of this policy. Once you seal something on a blockchain, nobody can take it back, including us.

  • Sealing sends data to a public blockchain (Bitcoin or BitcoinSV) that Bitseal does not control.
  • Once confirmed, it is visible to anyone, forever, and cannot be edited or deleted by you or by us.
  • An inscription stores your actual content on the chain. A hash seal stores only a fingerprint of it.
  • Do not seal anything you would not be comfortable having public permanently. Drafts can be edited or deleted until you seal them. Sealing is the point of no return.

Also keep in mind:

  • Pseudonymous, not anonymous. A transaction shows the wallet address that paid for it. If someone can link that address to you, they can link your seals to you. A "private" seal hides the content and your name on Bitseal's pages only.
  • Photos can carry hidden data such as where and when they were taken. Bitseal removes it from JPEG, PNG and WebP pictures in your browser before they are saved. It does not cover other file types, or anything you can see in the picture itself. Pictures attached before this feature existed were not cleaned. Check what you attach.
  • Short or guessable text can be confirmed. Anyone can compute the fingerprint of a guess and compare it to a hash seal.
  • Others can copy public content and keep it forever.
  • Erasure. Requests to delete personal information can apply only to data on our own servers. We cannot remove anything already confirmed on a blockchain.

3. How do we use and share your information?

In short: to run the Services, keep them safe and follow the law. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

We use your information to run your account and the Services, store and seal your drafts, send service emails, let you share with the people you choose, keep the Services safe (fraud, abuse, spam, and checking that content follows our rules), and enforce our Terms or respond to legal requests.

Who can see what. A private draft or record is visible only to you. A shared one is visible to the people you invite. A public one is visible to anyone, with your @username. Inscribed content is public to everyone, whatever visibility you pick.

We share information only with: service providers that work for us (such as hosting, email delivery and traffic protection), who may use it only for that work; authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety; a successor company if Bitseal is sold or merged; and other users, as you choose. We do not sell personal information.

4. Third-party wallets and services

To seal on-chain you connect a wallet run by someone else: Unisat or Xverse for Bitcoin, or Yours for BitcoinSV. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle your keys, funds and data.

Some pages also ask other services for information straight from your browser, and those services see your IP address: mempool.space (Bitcoin fees and transactions), WhatsOnChain (BitcoinSV transactions), ordinals.com and ordfs.network (to show inscribed content), and Google Fonts (our typeface). Our servers also look up your seal's public transaction to confirm it. Those lookups contain only public blockchain data.

A draft that holds a YouTube link has a Play button. YouTube's player loads only after you press it (from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced player), and then YouTube sees your IP address and may set its own cookies. That is governed by Google's privacy policy. Nothing from YouTube loads while you only read the draft.

5. How long do we keep your information?

In short: off-chain data while you have an account; on-chain data forever, outside our control.

We keep your drafts and account data until you delete them or close your account. When you delete your account, we remove your drafts, captures, profile and sessions from our live systems. Deleted data can stay in an encrypted backup for up to 35 days. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days. We may keep limited records longer where the law requires it. On-chain data is kept permanently by the blockchain itself (Section 2).

6. How do we keep your information safe?

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), one-way hashed passwords, limited access to our systems and encrypted backups. No system is completely secure, and we cannot secure the wallets or blockchains you use. Please keep your wallet, recovery phrase and password safe. Bitseal will never ask for your recovery phrase or private keys. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you as the law requires.

7. What are your privacy rights?

In short: you can review, change or delete your account at any time. We cannot delete data already on a blockchain.

You can edit your profile, change your email or password, delete drafts, or delete your account in the Services, or email privacy@bitseal.net. We may ask you to confirm who you are, and we aim to answer within 30 days. If you live in California, you may also ask what personal information we hold, and ask us to correct or delete it. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

8. Do we collect information from minors?

No. Bitseal is for people 18 and older, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we will deactivate the account and delete the data. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact privacy@bitseal.net.

9. Where is your information processed?

Bitseal runs from the United States and is intended for use here. If you use it from another country, your information is processed in the United States. Public blockchains are copied on computers worldwide. Most browsers have a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for it, so the Services do not respond to it differently, and we do not track you across other sites.

10. Do we update this policy?

Yes. When we make changes, we will post the new policy here and update the "Last updated" date. For significant changes we will also email the address on your account.

11. How can you contact us?
