Build your own Bitcoin Monastery
Oral history → Written history → Digital history. A Bitcoin Monastery is the modern digital version: you, your own personal home server, a decentralized network of friends, and Bitcoin preserving truth.
What is it for?
- Saving what matters. Letters, articles, family stories, important documents.
- Archiving the web. Pages and books you don't trust to stay online.
- Proving things. Check any record yourself, without trusting anyone.
- Joining a movement. Many small monasteries, no single gatekeeper.
- Staying private. Link your own devices over a private, encrypted network instead of leaving your home server open to the whole internet.
- How to start. Tailscale is the easiest way. Its company helps your devices find each other, but your traffic goes directly between them. It has a free plan for personal use (check its current terms). If you would rather not rely on a company, Headscale (an open-source replacement for Tailscale's coordination server) or plain WireGuard do the same job with more setup.
